Otis Henry Wilbon
DAWSON Retired Master
Sergeant Otis Henry Wilbon,
commonly referred to as Bay by
family members, and was born
September 08, 1931 in
Bronwood, GA to the late Henry and
Lizzie Wilbon.
At an early age, he joined the
Second Shiloh Missionary Baptist
Church, where he remained an
active member until his passing.
He served on the Ushers Board
and sang in the choir. He was
also a member of Second
Shilohs group, the Spiritual Star
Gospel Singers.
He was educated in the public
school systems of Terrell County
and Dougherty County. He was
a 1951 graduate of Monroe High
School, Albany, GA. After
graduating from high school, he
worked for a short period of time
in Dawson and Albany, GA. He
worked as a driver for a milk
company in Albany, GA, as a
mechanic for Rigsbys Garage
and he managed/co-managed
one of the local night spots in
Dawson, GA, The Palace. On
January 26, 1953, he was drafted
in the United States Army and
served his country for 29 years.
He began his career as a Military
Policeman, and had other
various positions. He retired from
active duty in the United States
Army as a Military Intelligence
Instructor in 1982. In 1983, he
continued his career with Civil
Service as an Electronics
Training Instructor. He retired
from the Civil Service in 2002
after 19 years of service. Otis
served his country for a total of
48 years.
In 1954, he married Catherine
Jelena Needham and to this
union of 54 years one child was
born.
Bay departed this life on
Thursday, August 7, 2008 at his
home In Sierra Vista, Arizona. He
was surrounded by his wife, son,
daughter-in-law and
granddaughter.
He leaves to cherish his
memories; a loving wife,
Catherine Jelena Needham Wilbon; one
son, Eric Wilbon and daughter-
in-law, Earnestine Wilbon; three
grandchildren, Jared, Erica and
Anton Wilbon, all of Leominister,
MA; three sisters, Katie Bishop
of Dawson, GA, Mary Emma
Coleman-Harris (Dea. Rochell) of
Albany, GA and Geraldine Teele
of Cleveland, OH; one brother,
Harris Wilbon (Stacey) of
Bronwood, GA; three uncles, Joseph
Wilbon (Sandy) of Pittsburgh,
PA, Horace Wilbon (Mildred) of
Aliquippa, PA and Raybon
Wilbon of Cleveland, OH; sister-in-
law, Louise Thompson of NY and
a host of nieces, nephews,
cousins and friends.

She was born on June 17, 1955
in Waycross, to Martin Kirkland
and Lucille Leverett Bennett,
both deceased, she was also
preceded in death by her
stepfather, Paul Don Bennett. She was

representative. Ms. Sumner is survived by
her son, John David J.D.
