Friday night fun goes ‘Full Blown’

  • Blues musician Carlos Barrientos will close out the Albany Museum of Art’s summer concert series.

ALBANY — Southwest Georgians will get a little help in greeting the weekend as the final installment of “Full Blown Blues Fridays” summer concert series takes the stage Friday night.

The event, which is co-sponsored with the museum by 105.5 Southern Soul, starts at 7 p.m. at the Albany Museum of Art, 311 Meadowlark Drive.

Admission is $5 and includes a food-and-cash-bar.

Reserved corporate or private tables are also available. They include 6-12 free drink tickets.

Full Blown Blues is a concert series that has combined art and a party atmosphere several times a summer since 2002.

“It’s the perfect way to begin winding down from the work week and gearing up for the weekend,” Albany Museum of Art Museum Services Coordinator Calandra Jefferson said in a recent news release.

Friday’s installment will feature tunes performed by blues musician Carlos Barrientos.

A native of Tela, Honduras, Barrientos is an accomplished musician who has studied at the National Music Conservatory in Guatamala City, Guatemala.

His compositions have been performed at Carnegie Hall and even been sought after by U.S. Sen. Bob Graham.

Barrientos’ appearances include performing with the Albany State University Jazz Ensemble at the Fletcher Henderson Jr., Macon and Atlanta jazz festivals.
