  • The Parks at Chehaw hosts three days of historical games and goods.

ALBANY — Southwest Georgians looking to take a step back in time should head to the Parks at Chehaw this weekend for the Frontier Festival.

The festival will be held 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday.

Admission is $1 for ages 3-17 and $2 for 18 and older.

The festival will give a glimpse of frontier life in the 18th and 19th centuries with period-clad participants offering wares, demonstrations and competitions of the day.

Contests will include black powder rifle shooting, tomahawk throwing and archery.

Presentations and demonstrations will include firing of black powder flintlock rifles, starting fires with flint and steel, casting bullets, candle making, soap making, tomahawk throwing, tanning deer hides into buckskin, cooking meals over an open fire, wood working with hand tools, bead work, a history of brick tea and Indian frying bread.
