R&B legend to perform in Sasser

  • Clarence Carter still 'strokin' " at 71.

SASSER – Georgia and Alabama Music Hall of Famer Clarence Carter will be performing at 7 p.m. Saturday.

the outside of the Sasser Flea Market and Antique Mall will be the set up for the tailgate-style music fest where visitors are encouraged to bring their coolers, grills and lawn chairs.

The event will be hosted by V-105.5's Jim Stevens.

Promoters Willie Latimore and Sirreatha Hall Jr. contacted Carter's manager because they thought he would be the perfect performer for such an event.

"We thought it would be great to bring a hall of fame artist there," Latimore said.

"He's a legend, and it's been a long time since this type of entertainment has been in this area," he added.

Latimore said ticket sales for the event have been great and he is expecting at least 2,000 visitors. He also said the event will be moved inside if it rains on Saturday.

Blind since birth, Carter is known for his hits such as 1986's "Strokin' " and "Back Door Santa." Tickets are $15 in advance and $15 at the gate. Advance tickets can be purchased at Dollie's Beauty Salon in Dawson, Odyssey Records in Albany and at the Sasser Flea Market.

For information, call (229) 376-7714.

"If it goes well, we plan to give some of the proceeds to the RiverQuarium," co-promoter Hall said.
