Brenton Brooks McCarty, Jr.

AMERICUS — Mr. Brenton ”Brent” Brooks McCarty, Jr., age 71, of 103 Morningside Drive, Americus, died early Thursday morning, May 29, 2008 at his residence.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, May 31, at First Baptist Church of Americus with Dr. Bob Whitmire officiating. Members of Romeos, Pal Markette, H. P. Rich, Garland Mears, Floyd Martin, Ron Phillips, Phillip Totty, Marion Hicks, Al Spence, Murph Ledbetter and Julian Webb are requested to serve as honorary pallbearers.

Mr. McCarty was born in Sumter County, August 3, 1936, a son of the late Brenton Brooks McCarty, Sr. and Ruth Methvin McCarthy. He previously owned and operated Horne’s Central Drugs. He was a member of the Lions Club, the Moose Club, a board member of the Americus Country Club, GSGA, USGA, and the Romeos. Mr. McCarty served in the Army National Guard and was a member of First Baptist Church of Americus.

Survivors include his wife, Kathryn ”Kathy” McCarty of Americus; two daughters and one son-in-law, Janet M. Brown of Cordele and Cami F. and Vanik Gharakhani of New Orleans, La.; five sons and daughters-in-law, Brent and Kay McCarty of Ellaville, Eddie and Carla McCarty of Valdosta, David and Shala McCarty of LaGrange, Scooter and Tonya Fairbrother of Newnan and Brooks and Kym McCarty of Savannah; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Mary Ruth and Don Harvard of Sylacauga, Al. and Martha Oglesby of Hiram; one brother and sister-in-law, Johnny and Judy McCarty of Woodbury. Thirteen grandchildren, Daniel McCarty, Deanna Herrin, Chris Faircloth, Brianne Faircloth, Cole McCarty, Grant McCarty, Travis McCarty, Kourtnie McCarty, Davey McCarty, Chaz Fairbrother, Armik Gharakhani, Kendall McCarty and Kathryn McCarty and three great-grandchildren, Thad Clark, Alissa Faircloth and Parker Faircloth also survive. A brother, Lucius ”Sonny” McCarty preceded him in death.
