Police arrest three in shooting

  • Shocothan Smith remains in critical condition at an area hospital, authorities say.

ALBANY — Police believe at least three people were involved in the home invasion at Shoreham Apartments on Dawson Road that left an Albany man critically injured early Tuesday morning, authorities say.

David Mobley Gainer, 18, Micheal Deshon Douglas, 19, and Adrian Allen Ward, 22, were all sitting in jail cells at at the Dougherty County Jail by Wednesday afternoon, charged with shooting 31-year- old Shocothan Jamaal Smith at his residence.

All three have been charged with aggravated assault and burglary and are being held at the jail awaiting a bond hearing, jail officials said. They were scheduled to be arraigned today at the jail. Smith was clinging to life at an area hospital Wednesday afternoon and showing signs of improvement, authorities said, despite being shot in the head. He is still listed in critical condition.

According to Albany Police Spokesperson Phyllis Banks, Smith was shot during an apparent burglary around 2:05 a.m. Tuesday on the 2200 block of Lionel Lane.
