Lee to add drug agent

  • A marked increase in drug cases has caused the county to add additional help in handling them.

LEESBURG — More drug cases translates into more drug agents, Lee County Sheriff Harold Breeden said Thursday.

With a growing number of drug cases, Breeden’s drug squad is adding a new member, boosting its numbers from three to four.

Over the last year, the Lee County Drug Unit has worked numerous cases including the largest drug discovery in recent memory. Breeden said that in the coming days, he will move a uniformed deputy with prior narcotics experience into the unit.

“Well, I’ve always wanted to be able to have them to travel in pairs, because when I worked dope years ago, that was the way we did it, and it worked,” Breeden said.

By moving a deputy into the unit from another division, Breeden say it will not increase the budget for his department.
