No suspects announced yet in Mock Road slaying

  • Police continue their investigation into the death of an elderly Albany woman.

ALBANY — A woman found dead by family members at her Mock Road home last week was killed after she was beaten and had her throat cut, documents show.

Susie Hollingsworth, 67, of 202 North Mock Road, was found dead inside her home by her son on April 29, police documents show.

According to records obtained from the Dougherty County Probate Court, Hollingsworth died of “multiple sharp and blunt injuries.”

Police have yet to say whether they have any suspects in the case, but have said that they have developed several “persons of interest.”

According to police reports, family members became concerned for Hollingsworth after they couldn’t reach her by phone for several days.

Police have remained tightlipped about the details of the case but investigative supervisor Capt. Charlie Poole said the day the after body was found that she had been cut.

A source familiar with case, but who asked to remain anonymous citing the ongoing nature of the investigation, said that Hollingsworth’s throat had been slashed and that it appeared that she had been beaten.

APD spokesperson Phyllis Banks said Tuesday that investigators were not prepared to release any additional information about the case and that no suspects have been developed.

Police reports also show that the 67-year-old was found lying on the floor of her home, covered from head to toe with a blanket.

Upon arrival, police spoke with Hollingsworth’s son, 36-year-old Hubert Merritt, Jr., who told them he came over to the house to check on his mother and broke into the home when he couldn’t get an answer at the door, police reports show.
