Dog injured when house is set on fire

ALBANY — A dog was injured after the plastic dog house it was living in was set on fire, police reports show.

Monday, police and fire units responded to an apartment on the 1500 block of West Oakridge Drive and found the remains of the dog house smoldering.

According to the reports, the dog house was set on fire just after 10:30 p.m. A peekapoo named Patches was sleeping in the dog house when it was set on fire and was injured by the heat and melting plastic.

A laundry room door was also damaged by the fire, the report shows.

According to documents from the Albany Fire Department, the fire was isolated to the doghouse on the patio of the apartment and required just five gallons of water to extinguish.

Tevoris Clark, a 19-year-old neighbor, saw the fire as he was walking nearby and tried to use a fire extinguisher to put the fire out.

Arson investigators were called to the scene, but no arrests had been made before presstime. An APD report lists a 10-year-old boy as a possible suspect.

Apartment tenant Lillie Green told police that there are people who constantly harass her and her dog and that they may have played a role in the arson, according to reports.

Patches was taken to Westover Animal Clinic for treatment and is expected to survive.
