Fugitive arrested in Albany

  • James Alden Croy has been wanted by a Texas sheriffs office on fraud charges for nearly ten years.

ALBANY -- One of America's most wanted fugitives was discovered receiving critical care treatment at an Albany hospital Sunday, authorities said.

James Alden Croy, who authorities say has been living under the assumed name of Bobby Reno Livingston, was discovered by Dougherty County Sheriff's investigators
after receiving information from Texas law enforcement that he may be in the area.

According to Capt. Craig Dodd, Croy had been on the run for almost ten years when DCSO investigators spotted his wife and followed her to the hospital.

"After surveilling her for some time, she lead us to Phoebe where he was receiving treatment for an illness," Dodd said.

Croy was wanted by the Harris County, Texas Sheriffs Office for fraud charges in which investigators believe he made more than $4 million.

Croy was also featured on the nationally televised America's Most Wanted on three separate occassions beginning in March of 1998 and again most recently in 2003.

"He's a straight up con man," Dodd said. "The folks over in Harris County really wanted him bad."

Dodd said that charges out of Maryland may also be pending against Croy.

According to Dodd, Croy was initially indicted in Texas and was captured and brought to court, but through a glitch in the system was released on a very small amount of money.

Dodd said that plans are to extradite Croy back to Texas once he's out of the hospital.
