Body found downtown

  • An Albany man is found dead inside a pickup truck parked outside an Albany restaurant Tuesday.

ALBANY — Police found the body of an Albany man who died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head in a rented pickup truck outside a central Albany fast-food restaurant Tuesday.

David Reynolds, 45, was found dead in the driver’s seat of a Ford F-150 that he had rented from the Enterprise rental company on North Slappey Boulevard, officials said Tuesday.

An employee at the Burger King at 404 W. Oglethorpe Blvd. where Reynolds’ body was found, who did not want to be identified, said some customers who were coming into the restaurant noticed the truck and told a police officer who was in the building eating.

APD Spokesman Lt. Kenn Singleton said the customers had noticed the truck there earlier and thought Reynolds was just sleeping, but notified police after they realized the vehicle had been parked there for some time.

Dougherty County Coroner Emma Quimbley confirmed that Reynolds died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. She said no autopsy would be necessary.

A spokesperson with Enterprise Rent-A-Car said that the business typically does not rent out vehicles after someone has died in the vehicle. The spokesperson also confirmed that Reynolds had rented a vehicle from the company.

Singleton said police will continue to investigate the death.

The Burger King reopened Tuesday evening after closing for several hours.
